Things Mamas Do: Human Snot Rag

Do you remember how your jumper or skivvy sleeve in primary school also doubled as the perfect hanky/tissue/snot rag? It kind of made the wrist to elbow section of your sleeve look like a snail had used your sleeve as a runway ready for take-off. Eventually your mum probably convinced you to stop wiping your snotty nose with your sleeve and be a little more grown up/civilized and actually use a hanky and those days were forgotten about.

Until you had kids. They do say things go full circle {including some hideous trends from the 90s} and this snot wiping habit has returned to my life. Except this time, it does not involve skivvy sleeves - instead, it's my dear old hand.

Yep, as a mum to a kid who seems to forever be blessed with a runny or snotty nose {and is affectionately known as snot monster}, the closest and easiest option is to wipe or pick the mucus from his dear little nose and rub it on his shirt, or mine, or even my leg for that matter. Yep, I'm keeping it real here folks.
Perhaps it has some good moisturiser type qualities?

My Imperfect Life

After the huge Samantha Armytage uproar {read about it here}, I thought it be an appropriate time to revive the #myimperfectlife series.

If you follow me on facebook you would have seen me post my #comfywomfy {currently trending as I type this} photo. I had actually been saving the photo in the trackies and white singlet for this very post.

I seriously would love to share pictures of a beautifully clean, Neale-Whittaker-approved styled home with a one year old dressed in designer, organic duds* without snot on his face or clothes {or on my clothes for that matter} but hey, that ain't real life.

My real life involves a couple of days of work where I make sure I spruce myself up a little, wear clothes that I consider stylish that reflect my personality and put my face on {even though I have no real idea about how to apply said 'face'} and those days are often documented under the Mama Wardrobe series or on instagram. But the other days? There is usually a layer of dog hair accompanied by random bits of food on the floor that food critic himself has deemed not suitable for human consumption, I'm wearing a dress, comfortable pants or shorts {often Lorna Jane - yep, I'm one of those mums**} and I'm sitting on the couch browsing facebook, instagram or online stores ignoring said dog hair and food. I AM a champion clothes washer-er-er but fail miserably when it comes to putting clothes back in their home, let alone doing things like, um, ironing. My thirteen month old still has a dummy, the dog licks the baby way too often and I'm a kilo or three heavier than I should be given my paid hobby as a bodypump instructor. Given I only work 22 hours a week, I probably should be much better at keeping the house and the family clean. But I'm working on it .... by reading blogs about being more organised. One day those handy hints will be put into practise. Until then though, want a real representation of what my life looks like on a day to day basis?

This is it and me, in all my imperfect glory. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

That is of course unless I won the lotto. Then things would be a little bit different. I guess.

*the bit about the duds may be somewhat true ; )
** it helps that my bestie is a store manager at said retail store

My Imperfect Life

{The majority of us portray ourselves and our lives as wonderfully fantastic on social media - wonderfully fantastic things like beautiful outfits, cute babies, fancy food and the newest bestest nail polish on the market. I don't know about you but my life certainly isn't perfect and I'm here to prove it - baby tears, mummy tears, untidy houses, makeup free faces, natural hair, post-baby bodies and all sorts of normal}

I thought I didn't have anything for this fortnight's edition of my imperfect life but had a scan through my photo library, and well, yep, it's been a perfectly imperfect couple of weeks. Without further ado ...

Let Ned go to town on some spag bol and thought the best way to go about it was nude in the bath. Turned out to be quite a good plan!

I attempted to place one of my Healthy Mummy smoothies back in the pantry without the lid on properly. Didn't end well but Rocky was every so obliging in helping me clean up.

A few seconds of freedom and then ...

Luckily I remembered this before I'd driven too far. Managed to back out of the driveway and up our street before thinking 'where is the laptop?'

What's been going on in your life?

I've got some pearlers this fortnight. I love the feedback I got on my facebook page last edition - readers loving and relating to my imperfection. It's nice to know I'm not the only one.

my hair has been falling out like a mo-fo - thank you pregnancy for these bald spots

I was busy playing on my phone and forget that I had starting filling the sink up - yep I flooded the kitchen all to try and dominate candy crush level 275

left Ned a little grumpy in the cot and soon enough things were quiet - when I went to check on him was he thinking suicide would be a better option?

they say sleep when the baby sleeps so I did have a power nap - sign of a good nap? DROOL BABY

Steamed some cauliflower for Ned and left the saucepan unattended and boiled it dry. No chance in saving it unfortunately.

I could have been cleaning but instead I hired a movie and watched it while Ned slept

oops - forgotten food. YUCK

Things aren't always rosy.

I had coffee - he had a bottle. Then he spewed.

Mama Uniform

I love clothes and I love dressing up. Pre-baby most days I would wear a dress and sandals with make up and put at least some effort into my hair.

These days?

Usually a pair of shorts, a singlet, thongs and my hair in a messy bun or a plait. My other uniforms? Printed pants and a white tee (but lately it's just been insanely too hot) or gym gear.

This is my everyday style.
this is the face of a recently turned 31 year old (as in yesterday) with no makeup whatsoever - who invited those crows and their feet?

Lorna Jane crop and top // levis belt // billabong shorts // havaianas thongs // tommy hilfiger sunnies // mummabubba bracelets

no makeup selfie before gym
an overtired baby who won't go to sleep (currently letting him cry it out)
yep, that's the state of my walk in wardrobe at the moment
post-gym and post-baby-body selfie
a mosquito bite on Ned's face (mother of the year)
dishes not done
nails - and yep, they've been that way for weeks
